van conversion
on march 1st 2008 we got a transit van to convert to a camper and spent the next ? weeks doing it. this is the story of its conversion :)
at some point i am gonna try and list everything we used and how much we spent but at the time of writing this we're still busy actually converting it!
anyway this is our slow old bird... :)
insulating and paneling
so first we had to get rid of some rust spots inside...
there was a wierd burnt bit on the side...
all the rust is gone and painted over ...
we put cavity wall insulation in and simon fits the first panel over it...
i cut down the bulkhead...
we had to put some batoning up on the upper sections...
screwing the plywood in place...
the ceiling goes up with a section left for the wood burners chimney...
i seal all the gaps...
the floor had a couple of really bad rusty bits so we got them welded...
then we sanded down the small rust spots and painted all the bare metal...
then we cut plywood to make the floor...
all done :)
building the furniture
we built the bed from solid batoning, all our cuts were pretty good i think we're getting better at this cutting lark since doing the plylining :)
the end result gave a sood solid bed base with plenty of storage space underneath.
now it was time for the kitchen...
si cuts up some pallets to make cupboard doors...
sizing up the wood we have...
i sand down and varnish the cupboard doors...
we fit a marble slab for the woodburner to sit on and put carpet down (yeh i know cream isn't a very practical colour but it was free on freecycle)...
si fixes the doors on...
all done :)
we fitted the cooker and hey presto we have a fully functional kitchen. we can't find any nice wood for the work surface at the moment so for now we just have a bit of plywood...
couldn't find any nice old wood so i bought a new piece in the end and varnished it so we now have a proper work surface with the bit at the end lifting up for the sink...
the wood burner
here's our great new wood burner made from an old gas bottle :)
decorating the inside
this is the really fun bit :)
stencil art...
tie-dyed sheet...
table/shelf over the bed made by simon:)... (or TV lol)...
table by the side door made by simon :)...
outer bodywork
lots of rust to get rid of before repainting her :)
thats one wheel arch done then...
we brightened her up with some banksy stencils while shes waiting for her new paint job...
